Centro Mater Foundation presents interactive ‘anti-gala in support of local in-need children

Contrasting traditional fundraisers, one foundation is kicking off Miami’s art season with a casual community celebration of urban art, music and entertainment in support of local underprivileged youths

MIAMI, FL—Aiming to starkly contrast the traditional galas abundantly offered  in South Florida’s philanthropic sector, one local organization is hoping to engage community members and creatively kick off the city’s art season with a casual and interactive, cultural celebration of community. Planning, in essence, an “anti-gala,” The Centro Mater Foundation is presenting Urban MATERs, an evening of urban art, music and entertainment in one of the Wynwood Arts District’s most unique venues.

The Centro Mater Foundation is a well-respected South Florida institution that supports the efforts of Centro Mater Child Care Services Inc., a non-profit organization that provides quality care and education to economically disadvantaged youths. Its board members, along with members of its young professionals group, Future Matters, will host the event, slated to take place at 8 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 14 at MAPS Backlot (342 NW 24th Street).

The exciting evening will raise funds to support Centro Mater’s award-winning services by connecting event guests with their art and music-filled surroundings, as well as with each other. Guests will be encouraged to kindly leave behind the tuxedos and stilettos typically associated with galas, and come as they are, prepared to interact with an imaginative environment. Designed as an urban art fair, the unique evening will offer revelers tastes from some of the city’s best food trucks—including Italian, gourmet grilled cheese, taco, and American fusion options by Food Truck Invasion—a macaroon cart by Atelier Monnier, a gelato cart, beverages courtesy of Coastal Wine and Spirits, craft beer by Panagra, a DJ, and live acoustics. Artistic expressions will include live art displays, silent art auctions, photo stations, henna applications, performance art, and opportunities for guests to create their own masterpieces.

Highlighting the evening’s art theme, local pop artist “GG,” the event’s Featured Artist, will offer an exhibition and demonstrate art pieces live. Additionally, Urban MATERs will include a Britto Pop-Up Shop, allowing attendees to peruse and purchase memorabilia by famed artist Romero Britto.

“This wonderful event offers a creative way to bring generations and community members together though the commonality of supporting Centro Mater’s in-need families,” said Centro Mater Foundation President Claudia de la Cruz. “We are extremely appreciative of our individual and corporate event sponsors. Their support will enhance the lives of many children and families.”

The funds raised through the Urban MATERs event will largely help the Centro Mater Foundation to support its noted summer program, which annually serves 800 at-risk children. In addition to its summer initiative, the foundation’s focuses include broadening Centro Mater Child Care Services’ scope of influence; improving its education and care services; and maintaining, enhancing and acquiring physical structures.

Event sponsors include Sazon Goya, Coastal Wine and Spirits, FirstBank Florida, Mercantil Commercebank, Cantera & Associates, Catholic Health Services, Diario las Americas, Merrill Lynch, Palmetto57, Femwell Group Health, HLB Gravier, KPMG LLP, Permal Group, and Verdeja & De Armas, LLP.

Ticket prices, which begin at $100 and are available at $75 for Future Matters members, can be purchased here.
